Process
Once the fabric is pinned onto the printing table and the colours are mixed, the meticulous process of block printing begins.
Our Stepwell design is made up of two wooden blocks, which have been carved by hand. Beginning at one end of the printing table, the first block is dipped into a colour and then pressed firmly into the fabric. This process is repeated over and over until they reach the other end of the printing table. Once dry enough to handle, another artisan follows behind applying the second block atop of the first.

Initial minimum order quantity for retail is 6 metres per colour, per design. If you require less than 6 metres then please get in touch to check stock levels.
Notes
If ordering more than 6 metres of fabric, please be aware that it’s supplied in bolts of 6 metres as per the length of the block printing table.

Block Making
Before any printing takes place, first the block must be carved.
Our printing blocks are made using woods such as teak or sycamore and are lovingly hand carved into our intricate designs using a chisel and hammer.
