Process
Once the fabric is pinned onto the printing table and the colours are mixed, the meticulous process of block printing begins.
Our Flower Pot design is our most labour intensive design being made up of five wooden blocks, which have been carved by hand. Beginning at one end of the printing table, the first block is dipped into a colour and then pressed firmly into the fabric. This process is repeated over and over until they reach the other end of the printing table. Once dry enough to handle, another artisan follows behind applying the second block atop of the first, then the third, fourth and fifth.

Initial minimum order quantity for retail is 6 metres per colour, per design. If you require less than 6 metres then please get in touch to check stock levels.
Notes
If ordering more than 6 metres of fabric, please be aware that it’s supplied in bolts of 6 metres as per the length of the block printing table.

On the printing table
Our Flower Pot design is made up of five different blocks, each applied one after the other.
This is a real labour of love.
It’s a fine art
Colours are mixed and then added to wooden trays filled with thin layers on muslin. The muslin helps absorb the binder and coat the wooden block evenly for printing.
The printer gently taps the block into the tray and onto the fabric over and over, making sure to apply the same amount of pressure each time. The tray sits atop a trolley that is pushed along the length of the table until each layer of colour is complete.
